Stirling Moss might not have been Britain’s first Grand Prix hero (that honour goes to Richard Seaman or, possibly, Henry Birkin) but he is arguably the most famous. Moss excelled in any type of racing car, be it a mundane saloon at a small British circuit or a 170mph Mercedes Benz over 1000 miles of Italian public roads during the Mille Miglia, which he won in 1955. Later in his career, he revelled in playing the underdog, driving for Rob Walker’s small, private team against the works entries and taking some famous victories – Argentina 1959, Monaco and Nurburgring 1960 in particular.
Rob Walker ran his cars in Cambridge Blue, with a white stripe across the nose and Moss’ lucky number was 7. That’s the inspiration for The Stirling bag but, of course, other numbers are available, as they are with all our bags.
